Efecto de las instituciones en el crecimiento económico

Abstract

El siguiente trabajo tiene como objetivo brindar una base conceptual sólida de la importancia de las instituciones en el crecimiento económico, partiendo desde su definición y cómo una correcta concepción y desarrollo de estas por parte de las naciones repercutirá de manera directa en el bienestar de la sociedad. A partir de la revisión exhaustiva de la literatura damos luces de las principales características que deben tener las instituciones y como el no cumplimiento de estas repercutirá en el crecimiento económico en regiones como América Latina dados los incentivos perversos que se han generado a lo largo de la historia para buscar únicamente el bien personal. Finalmente se presentan los principales estudios cuantitativos de los beneficios que resultan de tener buenas instituciones, los cuales, sin embargo, podrían presentar ciertas fallas metodológicas.

The aim of the following document is to provide a solid conceptual basis about the importance of institutions in economic growth, starting from their definition and how a correct conception and development by nations of these will have a direct impact on social welfare. From the exhaustive review of the literature, this paper gives insights into the main characteristics that institutions must have and how their non-compliance will affect economic growth in regions such as Latin America due to wicked incentives that have been generated throughout history to find personal benefits instead of social benefits. Finally, the main quantitative studies of the benefits of having good institutions, which may have certain methodological flaws.
